Weekend Planner: Halloween, Taffy Apples, The Dead, Spooky Circus, The Mad Scene, Ghostly Whispers

Get out and do something this weekend!

When/Where: Sunday, October 30 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Pioneer Park, 7135 Harlem Avenue, Niles. 

Why Go: Put on your costume and come enjoy a parade and costume contest, food, hayrides, crafts, entertainment, penny carnival, apple bobbing, mini golf and much more! This is Pioneer Park's last day for the season, so send it out with a blast.

IceLand Scary Skate

When/Where: Sunday, October 30 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at ; 8435 Ballard, Niles. 

Why Go: Spend a couple hours getting into the Halloween spirit on the ice this Sunday. Be sure to put on your orange and black and join IceLand for this “scary skate”!

Ghostly Whispers

When/Where: Friday, October 28 from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the ; 373 Golf Mill Center, Niles. 

Why Go: Join Debi and Stan Gajewski of The Story Spinners to hear their eerie

tales just in time for Halloween!

Halloween Costume Party/Dance

When/Where: Saturday, October 29 from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at (Entrance 6). 

Why Go: Join other teens for the Niles Teen Center's night of dancing and Halloween themed games at Golf Mill Mall. There will be a costume contest with prizes. Chips, candy & pop will be for sale, so bring extra cash!

Pricing: $5

Kids' Halloween Storytime and Parade

When/Where: Barnes and Noble, Village Crossing Shopping Center, Touhy Ave. and Niles Center Road, Skokie. Saturday Oct. 29 at 11 a.m.

Why Go: Wear your costume, listen to a reading of "Goodnight Goon" by Michael Rex, plus other stories, then join a parade around the store and enjoy treats and other activities.

Halloween Party at the Farmers Market

When/Where: The Farmers Market, Prairie and Garden Streets, Park Ridge (just west of the Park Ridge train station). Saturday, Oct. 29, 10 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: The first 125 kids get taffy apples, kids get free pumpkins to decorate and R.C. Juggles will do balloon art. Kids will get free trick or treat bags.

When/Where: Saturday, October 29 at 4 p.m. at Prairie View Community Center, 6834 Dempster Street, Morton Grove
Why Go: Get dressed up and join the Morton Grove Park District at the annual Halloween Family Festival. Children ages 3-12 will be able to participate in a variety of Halloween activities including: a hay hunt, haunted mazes, prizes and more. Morton Grove residents may register their children early by calling 847-965-1200. There is a limit of 250 children per party.

When/Where: Saturday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. at 2001 N. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg
Why Go: Dress up in your best costume to watch the Medieval Times 2-hour performance that includes Knights Jousting on horseback, exciting sword fighting and the romance of an 11th century time gone by, while enjoying a four-course dinner.

When/Where: Sunday, October 30 at 12 p.m. at 6240 Dempster St, Morton Grove
Why Go: The Morton Grove Historical Society and Morton Grove Park District will be commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War by hosting a presentation at the Morton Grove Historical Museum Educational Center.

When/Where: Sunday, October 30 at 2 p.m. at Morton Grove Public Library 6140 Lincoln Ave, Morton Grove
Why Go: Donizetti based Lucia di Lammermoor on a popular novel by Sir Walter Scott, and every minute crackles with drama. This, plus the composer’s succession of bravura vocal thrills (including the famous Mad Scene!), make for an experience. Plus, Jeffrey Sherman of the Lyric Opera of Chicago presents a profile.

Why Go: Global Cinema Distribution (www.globalcinemadistribution.com) announces the national theatrical release of the Ford Brothers’ West African–set zombie feature THE DEAD. After its successful U.K. run, THE DEAD lurches across the pond and into more than 20 cities throughout the U.S.

Why Go: Members of the Consumer Affairs Commission will hand out a free trick- or-treat bag, with a treat to children who attend in costume. Children are invited to trick-or-treat at each vendor stand. Donations of non-perishable food items to benefit the Niles Township Food Pantry will be collected at the Consumer Affairs Commission table in the Market.
