Get out and do something this weekend!

When/Where: Saturday, September 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the ; 987 Civic Center Drive, Niles

Why Go: All Niles residents are welcome to help celebrate Niles being awarded Bloomberg BusinessWeek’s Best Place in the U.S. to Raise Kids. The Fitness and Senior Center will be open and there will be swimming, open gym, crafts, billiards, casino play and pizza.

International Fest

When/Where: Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25 at 2 p.m. at the ; 6960 W. Oakton St., Niles.

Why Go: Enjoy complimentary food from restaurants around the area while watching dance performances from around the world.

Milwaukee Ave Dedication

When/Where: Sunday, September 25 at 12 p.m. at ; 6800 N. Milwaukee Ave, Niles.

Why Go: Honor Polish sculptor Wojciech M. Seweryn, who designed Niles' Katyn memorial and died last year in a plane crash along with many Polish dignitaries, by going to a ceremony where there will be an official unveiling of a street sign naming the cemetery section of Milwaukee Avenue in honor of Mr. Seweryn. A mayor from Poland will also present a plaque.

Chili Cookoff
When/Where: Friday, Sept. 23 at St. John Brebeuf Parish Ministry Center, 8305 N. Harlem, Niles. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Why Go: Get your spoon ready to taste various cooks’ efforts, and watch the friendly rivalry. Kids will also get hot dogs and a movie.
Pricing: $7 adults, $2 ages 5 to 12, under 5 free. $20 family maximum.



When/Where: 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23; Pinstripes, 1150 Willow Road, Northbrook
Why Go: Sit back and relax to the smooth sounds of jazz saxophonist Skinny Williams while enjoying a drink or a meal at Pinstripes.

Why Go: Plop the kids in front of LeMonnier for a U.S. history lesson made fun through songs and stories.

When/Where: Build Your Own Scarecrow at noon, bonfire at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25; Wagner Farm, 1510 Wagner Rd, Glenview
Why Go: Get in the spirit of fall by making a scarecrow and sharing cider and s’mores around a bonfire at beautiful Wagner Farm in Glenview.
Pricing: $5 to build a scarecrow, $3 for the bonfire
 

When/Where: 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25; Wood Oaks Green, 1150 Sanders Rd, Northbrook
Why Go: Take a 3K or 1 mile walk in the park, then spend the day having fun at Wood Oaks Green during this fundraiser for the Friendship Circle of Illinois, a nonprofit that connects teenagers and kids with special needs.
Pricing: Registration is free; entrants are encouraged to raise funds for the Friendship Circle



When/Where: 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25; Gallery Park, Patriot Blvd & Navy Blvd , Glenview
Why Go: Help fight blood cancer during this walk to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Northbrook’s own Garry Denk, 39, a lymphoma survivor, will be honored prior to the walk.
Pricing: $20 suggested donation for registrants; participants encouraged to raise money for LLS


Morton Grove Farmers’ Market: Harvest Fest
When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 24, 08:00 a.m., 8930 Waukegan Rd, Morton Grove, IL.
Why Go: Plenty of produce, pie and family fun this Saturday at the Morton Grove Farmers' Market. Join us for a homemade pie contest, hay rides, face painting, apples, cider, live music and more!

Taste of Arlington
When/Where: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24; 2200 W Euclid Ave, Arlington Heights, IL
Why Go: Join us as we say farewell to another great season at Arlington Park! Celebrate the final days of the season with an exciting weekend of live racing and entertainment, sweepstakes, prizes, food and beverage specials and more!

The Action Party of Morton Grove's 5th Annual Jack O'Brien Memorial Golf Outing
When/Where: Sunday, Sept. 25, 10:30 a.m., 600 S See Gwun Ave, Mt Prospect, IL, $30
Why Go: The event honors long time Morton Grove resident Jack O’Brien who was not only an avid golfer, but long-time community volunteer and co-founder of the Action Party of Morton Grove (along with the late former Mayors Richard Flickinger & Dan Scanlon).  A scramble golf format followed by a buffet dinner at the club house are features of this annual event along with a raffle for prizes.  For information on how to obtain tickets to attend for golf, dinner or both; please contact Terri Cousar, Action Party Secretary.

Hoedown at Harrer Park

Why Go: There will be fun and excitement for cowpokes for all ages including: arts and crafts, petting zoo, inflatable, hay rides, food vendors and more!

Women in History Exhibit Opening
When/Where: Sunday, Sept. 25, 02:00 p.m., 6240 Dempster St, Morton Grove, IL.
Why Go: Be among the first to experience the stories, photographs and colorful exhibits on women who have played a role in shaping the Village of Morton Grove, from the founding families through modern day.  Plan to tour the Haupt-Yehl House and the Museum Education Center exhibits and archives during our celebration.
