Weekend Planner: Concerts, Carnival Rides, And Hunting For Treasure

Concert In The Park
When/Where: 8 p.m. at Hodges Park in Park Ridge, in front of City Hall.
Why Go: Come listen to Beethoven, Brahms & Bernstein and enjoy the summer weather in the park.
Pricing: Free
 

When/Where: Thursday, July 21 and Friday, July 22 from 6 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, July 22 from noon to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, July 22 from noon to 6 p.m.
Why Go: Play games, go on rides and enjoy some cotton candy at the neighborhood carnival. 
Pricing: Free admission


Family Treasure Hunt
When/Where: Thursday, July 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Wildwood Nature Center. 
Why Go: Learn how to use a compass on a fun search around the Wildwood Nature Center. 
Pricing: $15


When/Where: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Oak Park in Niles. 
Why Go: Enjoy some rock 'n' roll by the band Soda in the park. 
Pricing: Free

When/Where: Thursday, July 21 and Friday July 22 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 noon - 11 p.m. at Miner and Lee Streets in Des Plaines.
Why Go: Four days of family fun, including arts & crafts for the kids, food from local vendors and a musical line up that includes more than 10 musical acts for kids and adults alike.
Pricing: $3 donation is suggested


When/Where: Thursday, July 21 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. , 2200 Lee St., Des Plaines.
Why Go: The Des Plaines Park District Community Concert Band will perform selections from their repertoire including rousing patriotic medleies, Broadway tunes, movie scores, and a host of all time family favorites.

When/Where:  Friday, July 22 - Saturday, July 23 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. , 515 E Thacker St., Des Plaines
Why Go: 'Oh, the Thinks You Can Think' captures the show's spirit of imagination, as the colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
Pricing: Tickets in advance $12.00 Adults, $9.00 Children, Students, Seniors, and groups of 12 or more. Tickets at the door $14.00 Adults, $11.00 Children, Students, and Seniors.


When/Where: 7-8 p.m., Friday, July 22;, Northbrook
Why Go: Get the kids off the coach for bike racing around the Ed Rudolph Velodrome and running in Meadowhill Park.
Pricing: $10 admission includes participation medal, pizza, drinks and admission to the Meadowhill Aquatic Center after the race.


When/Where: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Saturday, July 23; Blue Star Memorial forest Preserve, Glenview
Why Go: Bring your pooch for a walk or a jog in the beautiful forest preserve to raise money for Heartland Animal Shelter.
Pricing: $10 kids, $20 adults; family discounts available


When/Where: 2 p.m., Sunday, July 24;
Why Go: Hear the former Northbrook Village President and concert pianist play Gershwin, Copland, Barber and Dello Joio.
Pricing: Free


When/Where: noon-5 p.m., Sunday, July 24; various locations
Why Go: Tour five beautiful gardens in Northbrook, Deerfield and Lake Forest, all maintained by Gardeners of the North Shore. Included on this year’s list: Heddi Schellbach, 3825 W. Jarlath, Lincolnwood; Charlene and Stan Ackerman, 820 W. Deerpath, Lake Forest; Pat and Peter Thalman, 4160 Phyllis Rd, Northbrook; Erika and Eberhard Land, 4095 Pamela Ln, Northbrook; and Sue and Bob Rosenbacher, 2724 Birchwood, Deerfield.

When/Where: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday, July 23; 326 Central Ave., Highland Park
Why Go: Classic American wood-bodied station wagons from the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s are highlighted at the Highland Park Historical Society’s eleventh annual antique and classic auto show. Manufacturers represented include Duesenberg, Rolls Royce, Nash-Healey, Porsche and Bugatti.
Pricing: $5 donation for adults; children under 12 are free.
