Weekend Planner: Golf, Outdoor Movie, Carillon Concert, Greek Fest, Doobie Brothers

Get out and do something this weekend!


Fall Golf Special
When/Where: Monday, September 5 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Oakton Driving Range, 2800 W. Oakton Avenue, Park Ridge.
Why Go: Do you love to golf? The fall golf special gives you the chance to have more fun for less money; if you buy one large bucket you get one free.
Price: Normal price of golfing at Oakton Driving Range.

First Fridays
When/Where: Along Northwest Highway and Touhy Avenue in Uptown Park Ridge on Friday, September 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Why Go: All ages are welcome to attend the the event, which will include many classic cars on display, shopping, dining and live music.
Pricing: Free


When/Where: St. John Brebeuf School, 8301 N Harlem Ave, Niles on Friday, September 2  from 7 to 10 p.m.
Why Go: Everyone is welcome to celebrate the new school year on the south lawn at St. John Brebeuf. The movie Rio will be playing and there will be light drinks and refreshments available for purchase before the showing.
Pricing: Free

Chambers Live Entertainment: Way Cool
When/Where: Chambers Restaurant, 6881 N. Milwaukee, Niles, on Friday September 2 at 9 p.m.
Why Go: Rock ‘n’ roll fans can enjoy dinner and 60’s and 70’s music by the band Way Cool.
Price: Buy drinks or dinner.


When/Where: 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4;, County Line Rd & Green Bay Rd, Highland Park
Why Go: Carrie Underwood’s Sunday night performance is nearly sold out, but you can still start your long weekend off right with The Doobie Brothers’ funky, bluesy folky guitar-playing.
Pricing: $27-70


When/Where: 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5;, 1000 Lake Cook Rd, Glencoe
Why Go: Relax to an enchanting 45-minute musical performance of carillon bells on a warm summer evening and watch lights illuminate Evening Island at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Visitors can snacks and drinks at the Garden, or bring a picnic dinner to enjoy on the lawn. Sunday’s performance is the last carillon concert of the season.
Pricing: Free


When/Where: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 – Sunday, Sept. 5; Market Square and Western Avenue, Lake Forest
Why Go: Nearly 200 artists display their works in one of the nation’s oldest continually running art shows. Pick up a new masterpiece to brighten your home or find inspiration in the fiber/textile art, jewelry, glass, painting, photograph, sculpture and more.  
Pricing: Free to attend


When/Where: 9 – 11 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 4;
Why Go: What’s more fun than mini-golf with the kids over a long weekend? How about winning prizes, including rounds of golf at and baskets of balls at the practice range? Drinks and snacks are provided during the tournament.
Pricing: $6 adults, $5 kids

When/Where: Friday, Sept. 2 – Monday, Sept. 5;, 1085 Lake Cook Rd, Deerfield
Why Go: Get your fill of Greek food, music, dancing and crafts during this four-day festival. The jam-packed schedule of events includes carnival rides, games, performances by the Orpheus Dance Troupe, a stilt walker and live Greek music by the Hellenic Five Band.
Pricing: $3 adults, kids under 12 free
