Weekend Planner: Golf, Sailing, Fishing, Art

Get out and enjoy the (dare we hope?) nice weather this weekend.

Arlington Park Racetrack Family Day
When/Where: Arlington Racetrack, 2200 Euclid Avenue in Arlington Heights Sunday, June 5, first race is at 1 p.m., last race at 5:08 p.m.
Why Go: Reserve a picnic table and bring your own food or purchase some as mom and dad watch the races and the kids enjoy petting zoos and pony rides.
Price: $8 admission, $10 table reservation

Optimist Club Fishing Derby for ages 16 and younger
When/Where: Lake Opeka Park, Howard Avenue and Lee Street in Des Plaines Saturday, June 4 9 a.m. - noon.
Why Go: You provide your own rod and reel, the Optimist Club will provide the bait and help find the fish. Don’t miss this chance to land one of those mysterious Denizens of the Deep lurking in Lake Opeka!                                 
Price: Free

Des Plaines Yacht Club 12th Annual Sail a Sailboat Day
When/Where: , 1015 Howard Ave, Des Plaines Saturday, June 4 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. ;  
Why Go: Take a short boat ride with an experienced sailor, view the variety of boats on display, and talk to their owners. Be prepared to get wet on the ride. Find out the answers to all your sailing questions

Tunes and (Sculpture) Tours
When/Where: Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park, between Main and Dempster Streets on McCormick Blvd., Skokie, Sunday June 5, 10 a.m. to noon.
Why Go: Docents lead tours of the sculptures and musicians perform.
Pricing: Free

Bowling Bash
When/Where: Classic Bowl, 8530 N. Waukegan Rd., Morton Grove, Saturday June 4, 7 to 11 p.m.
Why Go: Show off your strikes and benefit St. John Brebeuf School at the same time.
Pricing: $25 includes appetizer, bowling and pizza. Call Veronica Cash at (847) 966-3266 to make a reservation.

Golf At Tam O’Shanter
When/Where: Tam O’Shanter Golf Course, 6780 W. Howard St., Niles, open seven days a week.
Why Go: It’s a historic golf course where many of the greats played back in the day. Sit on the deck of the Howard Street Inn for a drink or meal afterward.
Pricing: $10.50 to $19. There are midday (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), early evening and Sunday evening specials.


When/Where: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 2 at the North Shore Senior Center, 6140 Dempster St. in Morton Grove
Why Go: Lunch and discussion follows the showing of this year’s Academy Award-lauded movie.
Pricing: Free for NSSC members and $7 for non-members.


When/Where: 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 at Harrer Pool, 6250 Dempster St. in Morton Grove
Why Go: The pool is opening and it’s finally hot outside!
Pricing: Call 847-965-1200 for information on a pool pass.


When/Where: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Morton Grove Public Library at 6140 Lincoln Ave.
Why Go: It’s a lively concert with dancing, plus the chance to learn about Indian and West African music.
Pricing: Free.


When/Where: June 4 from 8a.m. to 12 p.m. , 470 Maple St, Winnetka, IL
Why Go: Tis the season to thrift till your hearts content. Additionally, proceeds from the sale take the form of benevolence grants to Chicago-area philanthropies.
Pricing: Prices vary.

Youth Art Show
When/Where: Thursday, June 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Centennial Recreation Center 3000 Glenview Road
