West Nile Virus Strikes Morton Grove

One resident has the illness, as do an individual in Glenview, two in Skokie and some in Evanston.

 

West Nile virus is more prevalent than ever this year, and a Morton Grove resident has now been confirmed with the virus, according to the village. 

An 81-year-old woman has the illness, and was diagnosed Aug. 7, according to the Morton Grove Champion. She has a form of the disease that affects the central nervous system, the paper reported.

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District said that according to the Illinois Department of Public Health, two Illinoisans have died from West Nile Virus, and there are 45 human cases, including two in Skokie, one in Glenview and six in Evanston, in addition to the Morton Grove case.

The mosquito abatement district conducts weekly spraying operations, but recommends people wear repellent and long sleeves and trousers during dusk to dawn hours.
