Wet and Wonderful Saturday at the Farmers' Market

Rain and clouds didn't dampen the fun at the Morton Grove Park District Day at the Morton Grove Farmers' Market.

Saturday was a wet day for everyone around Morton Grove, but that didn't stop hundreds of people from attending the Morton Grove Park District Day at the Morton Grove Farmers' Market. There were games to play, dancing, singing, and of course lots of fruits, veggies and all sorts of goodies to eat!

The gave away lots of prizes and introduced everyone to what they have to offer. There was a senior aerobics class, chess games with an expert, the Morton Grove Historical Museum and an entire preschool classroom set up at the market.

Fun was had by all and even a short emergency exit to the safe shelter during a thunderstorm could not slow things down. Within minutes the market was open and everyone was back to having a blast and shopping.

Midway through the morning the Morton Grove Park District's dance instructors and dance troupe lead the entire market in a mob flash dance of The Chicken Dance. A video will be coming soon to Morton Grove Patch.

Boston Sharpening was busy getting scissors, knives and garden clippers ready for their owners while they shopped. Fred will be taking next week off, so wait until August 6 to bring your dull blades to the market.

We spoke with some shoppers about what they planned to make with their market produce, and most were planning pies or to freeze the abundance of berries and tree fruits available this time of year. One die-hard market shopper was planning an entire Bar-B-Q from their market basket, including corn on the cob, New York strip steak, Kohlrabi "kohlslaw", caprese salad (tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil leaves), potato salad and turtle brownies for dessert.

Vegetables are also growing fast this time of year, and Lindsay of Laz Cosmetics brought her home made zucchini muffins to share with her market friend volunteers who came early to help set up.

Deals were easy to find, Our favorite was Le Flour, the featured vendor of the week, which offered 2 for 1 muffins and giant chocolate chip cookies.

If you missed this past Saturday at the market, don't worry, the market is open every Saturday from 8am to 1pm at 8930 Waukegan Road, between Dempster and Golf on the West side of the street.
