What's Happening? Put These Dates On Your Calendar

Stay clued in to events coming up in the Niles area.

Some big events are coming up in the Niles/Park Ridge area soon. Get them into your planner before they creep up on you.

  • Saturday, Nov. 5. celebrates its annual Gala. It's an elegant event with dinner, dancing, a silent auction and a space transformed into a gracious setting.
  • Friday Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. Niles' Veterans Day ceremony takes place at a different location this year: the , on Milwaukee Avenue just south of Ballard Road.
  • Nov. 17, evening. Watch a runway fashion show of local young women modeling dresses they've made out of materials that otherwise would  have been landfilled in the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County's Trashy Fashion Show.
  • Earlier:
  • Saturday, Nov. 19. The Christmas tree lighting ceremony and Santa's arrival take place at The village of Niles co-sponsors it this year, and it's expected to be bigger than before.
  • Sunday, Nov. 20. The International Taste of Niles will be held at White Eagle Banquet Hall. This event benefits the Niles Sister Cities Committee, and various restaurants around town serve an international smorbasbord. Recent events featured Polish, Korean, Mexican, Italian, Greek and other types of food, including the Niles Fire Deprtment offering firehouse chili. There's also a roster of live entertainment.
  • Friday, Nov. 25, evening. The always-charming Winterfest takes place in Park Ridge's Uptown, with Santa's arrival, the Maine South High School band playing Christmas carols, trolley tours down luminaria-filled streets, Madrigal singers, a concert in the library and lots of shops offering hot chocolate, cookies and contests.
