Temperature Trends: Temperatures will average near to a little above normal
Precipitation Trends: Rain will average a little above normal
Severe Weather Potential: While some t-storms may become strong next week, it appears that the greatest risk of severe weather will stay across central and southern Illinois.
Drought Potential: No drought is expected this spring and summer season
Flood Potential: Since the ground is saturated from all the rain in April, any heavy rain that occurs this week may lead to some minor issues with flooding.

General Weather Discussion for the Week Ahead

It appears that an active weather pattern will be in place for much of the Upper Midwest during the new week with several chances of showers and t-storms along with mild temperatures for this time of year. Much of today looks decent with generally partly cloudy skies and temps near normal with a more stable air mass in place after the rain that fell yesterday.

A stronger system moving toward northern Illinois on Saturday, May 7 will drag a warm front in our direction and this will cause a much better chance of showers and t-storms with the best coverage occurring during the first half of the day.

This will eventually become more scattered during the afternoon. Any Mother’s Day celebrations on Sunday, May 8 looks great as I have taken any rain out of the forecast!

The frontal boundary will set up in our general vicinity through much of the week with occasional rounds of showers and t-storms continuing through at least the middle of the week. Since the front will remain to the south, winds will generally come in off the lake resulting in cooler readings in the Morton Grove area with high temps holding in the 60s to near 70 at times and warmer over the south and southwest suburbs.

Perhaps the pattern will begin to quiet down as we head into the second half of the month. It certainly would be a welcome change!
