She portrayed the character Maria, played in the movie by Julie Andrews--who has been a tough act to follow ever since. Greta managed to subdue and earn the affection of Captain Von Trapp's seven children while leading them in singing such favorites as "Do Re Mi" and "My Favorite Things." By the end of the play, she and the cast had also earned the affection of the audience, which applauded loudly.

○      Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Greta took part in Emerson's musicals for the past two years.

"I've been singing for as long as I can remember," she said. She takes voice lessons, and worked on the "Sound of Music" songs with her voice teacher.

"I love doing theater," Greta said. "I feel really comfortable on stage, and I have a lot of fun with everything."

She plans to take choir when she goes to Maine South High School next year.
