With Nelson Mandela's Death, Film About Him Set To Hit Niles and Morton Grove

After spending more than a quarter of his life in prison, Mandela emerged to lead South Africa into democracy in which all races take part.

Nelson Mandela, who led the anti-apartheid movement and created a massive change for social justice and democracy in that country, died Thursday, according to the Huffington Post.

Mandela, 95, spent 27 years in prison for protesting South Africa's white minority government; he emerged to become the nation's president and help dismantle the apartheid system and establish a democracy participated in by all races.

A critically-acclaimed movie about Mandela's life, "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" was released last Wednesday, but is only showing in New York and California at the moment. It is expected to screen in the Niles and Morton Grove area when it goes into wide release in January.

Some critic have given the film, starring Idris Elba as Mandela, early Oscar buzz.
