Niles New Party 2013 Blasts Irresponsible Ad

Niles New Party 2013 Blasts Opponent's Ad

Opponent’s Ad Full of Inaccuracies & Half-Truths, According to Slate

(March 15, 2013--Niles, IL)... An ad that ran in local newspapers claimed that the Golf Mill Shopping Center asked the Village of Niles for sales tax money to be turned over to the mall so that they could repair ‘neglected items’ at the mall.

“Nothing could be further from the truth,” said Andrew Przybylo, running for Mayor on the Niles New Party 2013 ticket with trustee candidates George Alpogianis, Danette O’Donovan Matyas and John Jekot.

“The fact is that Golf Mill is responsible for 10% of all sales tax generated in Niles and the majority of that tax comes from non-Niles residents, which keeps our property taxes low,” he said.  “But Golf Mill, like other area businesses, has been severely impacted by flooding,” Przybylo said, “and the Village is partly responsible.”

According to records there was a three part ordinance introduced on March 27, 2012.  “At no time or within the ordinance was an increase in taxes contemplated,” Przybylo said.  “The citizens of Niles need to know that what was considered was that if parts one and two of the ordinance had passed, then there would have been ‘a reallocation’ of existing taxes, but parts one and two never did pass so the tax issue was never discussed.  It’s important that people understand that,” he said, “especially in light of the ad run by our opponents.”

Trustees Alpogianis, O’Donovan Matyas and Jeckot all agree with Przybylo and Alpogianis pointed out that “a healthy business community is critical to the future of Niles.”

“The Niles New Party 2013 believes that the flood control bill passed in 2010 should be used for all businesses in Niles, just as was intended,” Przybylo said.
