"We've seen too many police and newspaper reports regarding unscrupulous tradesmen and thieves preying on our senior citizens," said Jekot. "We have outlined programs that the four of us will put into effect when elected that will address this issue," he said.
The programs will include but not be limited to:
- Education training for seniors regarding home security
- Refrigerator magnets and telephone decals that remind seniors how to identify appropriate service providers
- Develop a list of pre-screened, reputable service providers
- Reinvigorate the senior / teen co-operative to enlist the aid of teens in helping seniors with a variety of domestic chores
- Keep the Niles Free Bus FREE for seniors
"Seniors are not being serviced at the level they should be," said O'Donovan Matyas, "and we're going to change that. We're going to treat seniors as our own family members," she said.
