Chinese Inn Restaurant Has Closed

Longtime Niles restaurant The Chinese Inn at 7505 Milwaukee Avenue has closed.

The restaurant became embroiled in a tragic controversy in 2011, when a school teacher ordered food for a class party, specifying that no peanut oil or products be used. However, a girl in the class died after eating the food, and her parents sued the restaurant.

Ross Klicker, the economist development specialist for the village of Niles, said Monday he did not have any information on whether the closure was related to the tragedy. His understanding was that another owner had operated the restaurant in the interim, he said.

Remaining Chinese restaurants in Niles include China Star, 8105 Milwaukee Avenue, and Lucky Wok, 7878 N. Milwaukee Ave., and 168 Chinese Restaurant, 8922 1/2 N. Greenwood.
