Dominick's May Lay Off 5,600 Employees

There's no word yet on whether employees in the Morton Grove, Lincolnwood and other nearby locations could be retained if another business buys the stores.

Dominick's stores in Chicagoland, which are slated to close on Dec. 28,  could lay off as many as 5,600 employees, it said in a notice filed Oct. 30 with the state, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Earlier: Unsold Dominick's stores to close by Dec. 28

Competitor Jewel-Osco bought four of the stores, and there remains speculation other businesses might buy others. If the Morton Grove store closes, it would leave Morton Grove without a full-service grocery store.

Dominick's has 72 stores in the Chicago region. The closest are:

  • 6931 Dempster, Morton Grove
  • 6231 N. Nagle, Chicago
  • 1900 S. Cumberland, Park Ridge
  • 1340 Patriot Blvd., Glenview
  • 1555 Lee Street, Des Plaines
  • 1822 Willow Road, Northfield
  • 6810 N. McCormick Blvd., Lincolnwood
