Job-Hunting? Prepare For Job Fair Monday

Dress professionally and bring resumes, advisor says.

Employers will be manning booths from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at a job fair at 5701 Oakton St., Skokie, and organizers are encouraging job seekers to attend.

"Show up, bring resumes and look ship-shape," said Deb Lawrence of the Illinois Work Net Center, an organization devoted to helping people find work. It's funded by state and federal grants.

Some employers may conduct on-the-spot interviews, the organization's material says, and even make immediate job offers.

People who feel they need more preparation or coaching before entering the job market may also attend periodic workshops the organization holds. They cover skills such as interviewing and resume writing. The organization also has a training center at and a career center at Evanston Public Library.

"There are a lot of free and low cost resources available for job seekers, and people are not always aware of them," Lawrence said.
