The Filipino specialty dessert halo halo is a tropical delight.

Yesterday, we ran a photo of this dish and asked readers to guess which Niles establishment serves it.

Did you guess right?

It's served by an ice cream shop at Oakton Street and Waukegan Road, and it's called halo halo, a Filipino dessert.

"In English halo halo means mix mix," said Dyan Francisco, who works at the ice cream shop. "You mix shaved ice, beans, white and red sugar palm, tapioca, purple yam ice cream and purple yam, evaporated milk and natade coco."

Village Creamery also offers many ice cream flavors that reflect the Filipino heritage of its owners, including buko pandan, lychee, mangosteen and ube, but there are also a wide selection of flavors better known to Americans, such as dark and white chocolate, tiramisu, vanilla and fruit flavors.
