Morton Grove Reaching Out to Industrial Businesses Thursday

The village will host an 8:30 a.m. meet n' greet to give businesses resources, get feedback on the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning's ideas for the manufacturing corridor.

What are the best ways to help manufacturing and industrial business thrive in Morton Grove?

That's a question on the minds of both Village of Morton Grove staff and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning as they prepare to host an 8:30 a.m. event for manufacturing and industrial business leaders Thursday.

The event has three purposes, said Nancy Radzewicz, the village's Economic Development Director.

First, it's an opportunity for business leaders to meet village officials and staff, she said. Village staff wants to let them know they are a resource to help businesses succeed.

Secondly, it is a chance for the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning to provide preliminary information on an Industrial Areas Plan, which CMAP is preparing for the Village.

Finally, it is an opportunity for businesses to meet, and learn about resources available from, other entities such as the Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center.

Nicole Woods, an associate planner with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, said her agency has a mission to implement the Go To 2040 Plan for the seven-county Chicago region.

To do so, it offers grants, and Morton Grove's Industrial Areas Plan won one of the grants. Consequently, CMAP is helping it to develop the Industrial Areas Plan.

The agency is still working on the first phase --assessing existing conditions in Morton Grove's industrial areas--out of a total of three phases.

"The plan isn't finished," Woods said. "We want to hear what businesses have to say, and make sure, in crafting the plan, that everything is aligned with what they say."

Morton Grove has two industrial areas. The North Industrial Area is primarily the Avon property on Golf and Waukegan Roads. The South Industrial Area is centered around Oakton and Lehigh Streets.
