Niles Businesses Hear Latest Buzz

A few dozen Niles business owners and managers heard the latest on the village's business climate last week when the village sponsored a breakfast to reach out to them.

Ross Klicker, the village's economic development coordinator, and others brief business people on a number of points:

  • The village's 2030 Comprehensive Plan spells out many factors that will help businesses, such as zoning and transportation to get shoppers to businesses.
  • Niles is trying to update its zoning code.
  • The village is trying to help businesses get up and running as smoothly and quickly as possible.
  • An e-newsletter with information specifically for businesses is in the works.
  • The village is studying an update of its logo. Klicker said the village knows it's competing for business with other communities in Chicagoland and across the country, and wants to put its best look forward.
  • The village's website has a Site Selector for businesses looking to locate in Niles. It has searchable databases, such as labor rates, spending rates and more.
  • Niles wants to capitalize on proximity to transportation downtown--for business commuters who live downtown and commute here, and vice versa.
  • The village is developing a new website.
  • The Niles Public Library has extensive resources for businesses, including SCORE counseling, a small business center and searchable websites for marketing and sales.
  • Niles has a facade improvement program.
