Reveal: Who Makes Baked Lamb Dish, And Who Won

You can enjoy the lamb and pasta dish on their outdoor, heated, covered patio until it snows. Just don't count on the geraniums to survive.

 

You read that right. The restaurant featured in this week's Guess the Restaurant contest has updated its outdoor dining patio with heating and a roof, and, says Athena Marageas, you can eat there even when it's 30 degrees out--as long as there's no snow.

Athena's husband, Dimitri Marageas, is the owner and force behind  8660 W. Golf Road, Niles, which makes the baked lamb giouvetsi with orzo pasta and kasseri cheese. It's the answer to this week's contest.

"My husband goes to Greece a couple of times a year, and he always wants to bring something (in terms of new dishes) back," she said. "He's always discovering something. It's his hobby, but it works out well for the restaurant."

His grandmother owned a taverna in Greece, and was born and raised in Sparta, Greece, said Athena, who was born in Greece but raised here.

They're celebrating their 31st year in business this year, and they recently remodeled the bar and bathrooms on the patio, adding a dramatic, color-changing fountain with a rim of fire on top.

The couple's architect saw something similar at a hotel in Mykonos, Greece and created it. 

Plans call for the interior to be remodeled soon, in the typical colors--blue, white and terracotta--of the houses on the island of Mykonos.
