Scholarship Winners Shine at Night of Roses

Some won $1,000 scholarships to high school, others won $3,000 scholarships to college.

Seven scholarship winners--and one dad who was accepting for his son, who was away visiting a college--came up to the stage at the Niles Night of Roses event Saturday at White Eagle Banquets to accept their prizes.

The Niles Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded its Dollars for Scholars scholarships based on applicants' grades, awards, honors, service to the community and an essay, said Katie Schneider, executive director of the Chamber.

Chris Zalinski, who co-led the Dollars for Scholars effort with Pamela Lowe, presented the students with awards.
