Some Homes Won't Get Power Until Sunday

While some areas came on Monday night, other cases are trickier.

While some Niles homes and businesses got their power back on between 9 and 10 p.m. Monday night, others could possibly face a long, hot stretch until Sunday.

That's what ComEd told Niles Village Manager George Van Geem Tuesday, he said.

"They're putting them on as they can. It's a typical power outage. They're putting the most people back in service first," he said, adding that the electric utility first works on substations, to get large blocks of customers' power running again, then move on to working to individual cases, such as a home with power knocked out because a tree fell on a power line.

Out of more than 850,000 ComEd customers who lost power Monday, half are back online, Van Geem said.

ComEd has more than 700 crews working on restoring power.
