Walmart Pulls Formula From Illinois Stores; Maker Based In Glenview

It's part of a nationwide recall of Enfamil baby formula, manufactured by Mead Johnson.

Walmart stores in Niles and across Illinois and the nation have voluntarily pulled powdered Enfamil newborn baby formula off the shelves after died from a a bacterial infection after drinking it.

Mead Johnson Nutrition, which makes Enfamil, is based in Glenview. The company told WGN that the batch of formula the 10-day-old baby, Avery Corbett, drank was tested and found not contaminated, so it is not issuing a recall. Neither has the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a recall, according to Huffington PostBusinessWeek.com is reporting Mead Johnson's stock fell 7.6 percent as a result of the news.

Kayla Whaling, a Walmart spokesperson, confirmed that the two stores in Niles, one at and the other at , removed the formula from the sales floor.

"Out of an overabundance of caution, we removed it from store shelves across the country, including Illinois," she said.

There are 3,856 Walmart stores in the U.S., she said.

If consumers have recently purchased Enfamil newborn formula, they should examine the 12.5 ounce canisters to see if  the lot number ZP1K7G is on the bottom of the can, according to WGN. This is the lot under investigation.
