Weekend Planner: College Theater and Music, Horse Racing, Classic Cars and Dr. Seuss

When/Where: Thursday, July 28 from 6 to 8 p.m., Harrer Park, 6250 Dempster St., Morton Grove
Why Go: Come to check out some really great cars from 1989 and earlier, then stay for the concert by the Daddy O's while enjoying Mr. Gee’s BBQ.

Why Go: Enjoy six 10-minute one-act plays written by college students in the only community college festival of this kind. Proceeds support the Oakton Performing Arts Scholarship Fund.

Summer Concert
When/Where: Friday, July 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oak Park, Ozark between Main and Lee, Niles.
Why Go: An outdoor musical concert by StingRay, with 50s, 60s and 70s music.
Pricing: Free.

“Broadway Special” Outdoor Concert
When/Where: Friday, July 29, 8 p.m., Hodges Park, Courtland Ave. and Prospect Ave., one block west of the Pickwick Theatre, Park Ridge.
Why Go: Hear Broadway’s greatest toe-tapping hits.
Pricing: Free.

Why Go: 'Oh, the Thinks You Can Think' captures the show's spirit of imagination, as the colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

Country Farm Fair

Why Go: Petting zoo, games, crafts, activities, pony rides, sack races, pie eating contest.
Pricing: Priced by activity; reasonable.

Girls Day Out At Arlington Park
When/Where: Saturday, July 30 Gates open at 11:15 a.m. Arlington Race Track 2200 W. Euclid Ave. in Arlington Heights
Why Go: Ladies, put on your best sun dress and a hat that will make Hedda Hopper roll over in her grave and head to the track for races, live music and cocktails. (It’s not a bad place to meet men either if we do say so ourselves). There are also exclusive packages for you to enjoy spa treatments and free gifts!
Price: Prices vary for packages, $8 general admission.

Kontomble Ensemble Concert
When/Where: Sunday, July 31 from 2 to 3 p.m., Morton Grove Library, 6140 Lincoln Ave.
Why Go: This quartet of musicians from Northwestern University will highlight a wide variety of percussion instruments. You'll hear African music, drum set, old and modern rudimental/marching snare and bass drum, rag time music with a xylophone soloist, solo pieces on marimba and a fun rhythmic vocal piece.
