What A Dish! Fish Dinner Goes To Our Winner

Here's who makes the fresh whitefish in our Guess the Food contest. They're on Golf Road, they're open 24 hours, they make their own pastries, they're...

Maybe we should have said "they're open 24 hours" in this week's Guess the Food contest.

Would you have known then that  made the garlic-lemon crusted Lake Superior whitefish with homemade mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables?

Steve Konstantopoulos, whose family, including brother Tom and father Gus, owns the restaurant, said they joke there's no key to the front door because they never close.

The fresh whitefish is one of the most popular dishes, he said.

The restaurant is also known for its house-made pastries and breads. A large bakery case near the front door tempts diners with 100 different kinds of pastry. Omega sells breads, croissants, bialys and pastries wholesale to other restaurants.

"We have a full bakery staff. They work downstairs in the basement," Konstantopoulos said.

And now for this week's Guess the Food winner. Two guessers correctly guessed the pictured dish came from Omega Restaurant; however, one of them guessed another restaurant first, and the contest rules only permit one guess. So the winner is Diane Jurczyk. Congratulations, Diane. Contact Tom Konstantopoulos at Omega, (847) 296-7777, to redeem your free fish entree.
