Where To Pick Apples Near Chicago

The drought was tough on orchards, but there are still some apples on the trees--enough for you to make a pie, if you get there in time.

This summer's weather--with an early warm spring, followed by frost and a drought--does not make for the most bountiful crop of apples in the area, according to wbez.org.

However, if September means picking apples and baking a pie at your house, orchards do have apples on the trees.  Getting out there early--like this weekend--is a good idea.

Jonamac Orchard in Malta IL, near DeKalb, offers pick-your-own apples, pumpkins, and a petting zoo to entertain the kids.

A list of pick-your-own orchards, some in Lake County and McHenry County, can be found here.

And if you're ready for a day in the country, a list of both Illinois and Wisconsin orchards can be found here.

Of course, no trip to the country is complete without some apple cider donuts and possibly an early pumpkin.
