Wright-Way Rescue Coming To Morton Grove, Mayor Says

The animal shelter has been seeking a place after a freak accident destroyed its former home in Niles.

Towards the end of Monday evening's Morton Grove village board meeting, Mayor Dan DiMaria held up a flyer advertising a Nov. 16 benefit for Wright-Way Animal Rescue at Lincoln Square Lanes in Chicago and asked people to support it.

"Please stop by," he said. "It looks like Wright-Way will be moving to Morton Grove. They have started the process with (Economic Development Director) Nancy (Radzevich) to get this rolling."

"I think it’ll be a plus for the village. This is the number one no-kill (animal) shelter in the United States."

Wright-Way lost the use of the building it leased on Touhy Avenue in Niles when a runaway school bus crashed into it Oct. 2. It generally gets a shipment of about 75 dogs and cats from southern Illinois each weekend, which it says would otherwise be euthanized, president Christy Anderson told Patch earlier.

Radzevich said the current Morton Grove zoning ordinance has no provisions in it for animal shelters, so Wright-Way has filed for a special use permit. At the November Plan Commission meeting, commissioners will look at filing an amendment to the ordinance to permit that use, she said.

Radzevich said Wright-Way's new location will be on Lincoln Avenue, somewhere in the vicinity of Austin Avenue, but she did not have the exact address Monday night.
