Morton Grove Chamber names the Morton Grove Historical Society September Member of the Month.

Morton Grove Historical Society President, Donna Hedrick is very pleased to announce that the Society was chosen by the Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce as their "Member of the Month" for September, 2013.  Cited by the Chamber and their Director Debbie Juris as a basis for their selection was publishing of the new book, "Images of America - Morton Grove" which the society had been working on for almost two years and saw released to the public this April.  The books are now widely available throughout the community.  Beyond the book, the Society under the inspiration of Donna Hedrick and the Board of Directors had been focusing on more projects and exhibits to interest both the long time and newer members of the community.  Two years ago, the Society was one of the community organizations which helped produce the Veterans Voices Program (which captured the stories told by veterans from WW2, Korea, Viet Nam and the Gulf Wars on camera...including the late Mayor Dan Scanlon's experiences which he shared just before his passing).  The museum in conjunction with these recordings, opened a successful exhibit honoring the men and women who served our country. A special Civil war Commemorative Presentation was made the following year featuring Civil War re-enactors including a full size canon.   New projects include the saving of a large piece of the Indian Marker Tree from Beckwith Road which will be carved into a statue of a Potawatomi Native American by artist Eric Widitz on site at the Museum on September 21 and 28.  There will be a special exhibit opening on November 10 in celebration of Native American Heritage Month at the Museum's Education Center.  "I am very happy to be a part of the new team at the Society.  We are working in conjunction with the Park District who to continue providing new perspectives on the history of our village and region" stated President Hedrick.
