Morton Grove's Car Show A Big Success

The first of three antique and classic car shows was held at the Village Plaza Mall in Morton Grove on June 16th. More shows will follow in July and August.

Rick Glickman, manager of the Monday Night Car Shows (MNCS) organization, summed up the June 16th Morton Grove car show in just three words..."This is awesome." Rick, along with many Morton Grove residents discovered that Morton Grove is a great place to spend a leisurely summer evening. Spectators looked over all types of vehicles ranging from the Ford Model T to a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette. Goody bags were handed out to the show's participants courtesy of the MNCS. Music, an auction of automotive products, prizes and a 50/50 raffle were included in the evening's activities along with a stilt walker who joked with the spectators and Wii games for the kids provided by Rosetta Metz of the Morton Grove Public Library. The Morton Grove police and fire departments displayed their vehicles and chatted with the participants. George Alpogianis, a member of the Morton Grove Economic Development Commission and owner of Kappy's Restaurant hosted the car show.

The next show is scheduled for Thursday July 14th at the same location which is the Village Plaza shopping center at Dempster Street and Harlem Avenue next to Kappy's Restaurant. We expect the show to grow significantly as more classic car owners become aware of our event and local businesses get involved. It's important to note that the MNCS organization generously donates a portion of the proceeds from the raffles to the Niles North and Niles West automobile mechanics training programs.

Please mark your calendar for 6:00 pm on Thursday July 14th and join us at the next show. (Rain dates are the following Thursday). Contact me if you are interested in being a show participant, a sponsor or a vendor.
