Summer Newsletter Will Feature Morton Grove Restaurants

Morton Grove Restaurants to be highlighted in Summer 2011 Newsletter

One of the methods used by the Morton Grove Economic Development Commission to promote our local business owners is to feature them in our newsletter, known as the Morton Grove Exchange. The newsletter is mailed to all of the residents and business owners in the Village four times a year.

The Business Profiles page in the upcoming Summer newsletter will feature four restaurants.  One of the restaurants is the Palace Chinese restaurant located at 9236 N. Waukegan Road. The Palace is owned and operated by the brother and sister team of Judy Yuen-Morales and John Yuen along with their mother. The Yuens are carrying on their late father's tradition of providing authentic Cantonese Chinese food to the fortunate people who dine at their restaurant or use their carry out service. The Palace was opened in 1965 making it one of Morton Grove's oldest established businesses, similar to their Waukegan Road neighbors Seven Brothers (1966) and  Maier's Bakery (1954).

Community and Economic Development Director John Said and I interviewed Judy for the newsletter and we both were very impressed with Judy's enthusiasm for her restaurant's fare. Judy told us that the chefs all trained under her father and that her grandmother's godson, who is training as a chef, traveled from China to gain valuable hands-on experience by working side by side with Judy's uncles. Judy pointed out that the Palace's fare is stir fried (not flash fried) in corn oil  and when mixed with fresh vegetables and rice is low in calories and very healthy. Gluten-free diners can be easily accommodated. Over 150 items are listed on the Palace menu.
