Tips for a Great School Year (from a teacher's point-of-view)

A teacher gives some tips for a successful school year.

Summer vacation is over.   School has begun.  Here we go again, trying to establish a good school routine for both students and parents.  Here are some tips you may find helpful for a great school year.

  • Breakfast- It is so important that you make sure your child eats breakfast.  Please do not feed your child a breakfast full of sugar.  Try to make sure there is some protein included in breakfast.  It will make it easier for the child to concentrate and there won't be a sugar crash in a couple of hours.
  • Sleep- Not enough sleep can also greatly affect your child's concentration and ability to work.  There are times that things come up to prevent a child from getting enough sleep and teachers understand that.  It is important to try to maintain a good sleeping routine.
  • Homework- Children need a place to do their homework.  For some that may be in their room or at the kitchen table.  Try to find a quiet place without a a lot of traffic.  Homework will get done more quickly.  Make sure you have some school supplies set aside at home too.  It is much cheaper to buy them now than in the middle of the school year.  Here's a BIG one- When your child is finished, put the homework into the bag or backpack.  This will save some time in the morning rush.
  • Communication- Please communicate with your teacher.  If your child has had a rough day or something is wrong, please let the teacher know.  If your child is having any problems at school, please talk to the teacher.  I always tell my parents, if I don't know about it, I can't do anything about it.

Hope these help and everyone has a great 2012-2013 school year!
