Skokie Bakery Blows My Mind

Discovered a new bakery in Skokie. Ate cake. Liked cake. Became happy.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to meet someone at his place of business.  He was not there, but, in his lobby, he had a bunch of postcards for Ovy’s Transylvanian Bakery in Skokie.

Ovy’s bakey was not a bakery I knew, but bakeries always get my attention; where most people have a sweet tooth, I’ve got 32 of them.

Anyway, a couple of days ago, I was in Skokie, close to Dempster and Central, and Ovy’s bakery is around there.  It was beyond my abilities not to end up there.

Long story short, I got an amandina (a chocolate and almond cream cake covered in chocolate).  I got one because it looked like just what the doctor ordered.  Turned out, the doctor was right. To see what it looks like, click here (it's the one next to the rasberries).

If you like almonds and chocolate, you’re going to burst out into song, or start dancing in a meadow filled with flowers in bloom that’ll suddenly materialize all around you as soon as you take a bite.

So, based on one visit, one cake, this Skokie bakery rocks.  Will it rock once I have a Napoleon?  A Joffre? A savarina?  I can hardly wait to find out.  How ‘bout you?

In all seriousness now, I’m giving 2 thumbs up to this Skokie bakery based on one item.  Aren’t you happy I’m not a pastry reviewer?

Hi Dusan, Ovy's was an exhibitor at the Romanian Festival this past summer, and they did rock! As a darkchocoholic (a chocoholic who likes dark chocolate), I give them thumbs up too.

Good to know my amandina was not a fluke, for these week, by way of rewarding them for excellence as students, I'm going to take my daughters there.

Hi Comment Guy, Thanks for asking! I was finding that we would get a lot of people guessing forRead More some restaurants (usually when there was a payoff of free pizza), and not very many people entering for other restaurants. Do you think we should bring them back? I'm open to people's opinions. --Pam

Hi Pam, Yes, I thought it would be great if we brought it back. For me personally, whenever I wouldRead More seed the contest on my Twitter timeline, I would immediately go to the site. And if there is an offer of free food even better. It does not even necessarily be a restaurant as it can also be any other type of business, i.e., bakery, retail, gym, car services, etc.
