Bites Nearby: Eat Your Heart Out at Maier's Bakery

This week's bite is an old-time favorite for Morton Grove's sweet tooth.

Hungering for a new fabulous food experience? Rather than perusing the Web or taking tips from friends, we've got a better idea.

Each week, Morton Grove Patch editors and readers will pick a great restaurant either in town or nearby whose cuisine is considered to reign supreme.

Here's this week's choice:

Greatest Dish Ever: This family-owned bakery has been serving up a colorful palette of coffee cakes, sweet rolls, doughnuts, bread and other desserts since 1954. But it's their "double-chocolate chip coffee cake" that is the bakery's claim to fame.
Don't Miss: This week, the pastry artisans are crafting Valentine cupcakes, cookies and heart-shaped petit fours.
The Vibe: Homemade and heartfelt
Cool Factor: With an emphasis on old-fashioned and homegrown tastiness, this bakery is a nod to Morton Grove's roots and a keepsake in the history book. You cannot buy freshly baked bread just anywhere these days, and the Maier's bakers put their hearts into it.

Mmm! Makes me want a cupcake or a heart-shaped cookie.

Maier's prepared all of the deserts for the Chambers VIP and Installation dinner and everything was absolutely amazing! Frank Silvio is such a generous person and gives so much to our community, but mostly his food is super yummy!
