ComEd Outage Report: More than 615,000 Have No Power

ComEd has indicated that more than 615,000 Chicago-area customers are presently without electricity. Approximately 45 percent of these outages (280,000) are localized across the northern suburbs.

ComEd is reporting that more than 80,000 customers in Illinois' northern region are without power due to the severe thunderstorm earlier this morning.

The Skokie region -- which includes Evanston and other neighboring areas -- seems to be hit hardest, with more than 20,000 residents without power, according to ComEd's website.

A spokesperson from the Village of Skokie said the official word from ComEd is that more than 800 homes in Skokie are without power.

At least 2,500 are without power in northern Cook County and up to the Wisconsin border. An additional 78,000 residents in Illinois' western territory are also without electricity.

In Chicago, 500 people are said to be without electricity.

A ComEd official said there are more than 450 crew members repairing storm outages. A timetable was not given as to when electricity would be up and running.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Lincolwnood, home improvement store Lowes is without power and running on a generator. Several trees have also fallen in the Skokie area, including one in the 8400 block of Lotus Avenue which landed on a vehicle.
