Halloween Happenings in the Niles-Morton Grove Area

Fear City and Hades, rated among the best and scariest haunted houses in Illinois, 8240 N. Austin Ave., Morton Grove. On weekends and selected dates through Oct. 31. For older teens and adults. 

Saturday, Oct. 20

Costume Contest at the Morton Grove Farmers Market. Prizes will be given to all participants with bigger prizes to the top three costumes at each contest, 9am, 10am & 11am. Pumpkin crafts, hay rides, live music, pumpkins, corn stalks, gourds and decorations. Market hours 8 a.m. to noon at 6210 Dempster. 

Spooktoberfest at Pioneer Park, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A children and doggie costume parade and contest, hayrides, free games and trivia contests, food, mini-golf $1.

Autumnfest Pet Parade and Scarecrow-Making in front of Park Ridge Library. Costume your pooch and bring her or him before the pet parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Bring old clothes, adult or child-sized, for the scarecrow-making at 11 a.m.

Sunday, Oct. 21

City of Ghosts. 2 p.m., Niles Library. Learn about frightening and disturbing events in Chicago history, delivered with supernatural drama. 

Friday, Oct. 26

Monsters Ball, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Oasis Fun Center, Niles Park District. Wear a costume, have dinner, listen to a scary story by flashlight and then be prepared to move to the music and have fun. 

Kooky Spooky Halloween Skate, 7-9 p.m. Skating Fee $6, Rentals $3. Park Ridge Park District. 

Halloween Big Bash Weekend at Chambers Seafood Grill and Chop House. Costume contest, Halloween celebration and jazz, blues, and rock from the 1960s and 70s. 

Saturday, Oct. 27

Halloween Parade and Party. Parade starts at Niles' Oak Park at 10:30 a.m. and proceeds to Grennan Heights park, which will come alive with games, candy, a balloon artist, crafts, entertainment, decorations and fun. 

Family Halloween Party, Kalo Foundation's Iannelli Studios Heritage Center, Park Ridge. Costume contest, take a photo with a witch, taffy apple walk, games, more. 

1 to 4 p.m. Wear a costume, hear spooky stories, go trick or treating in the library. 

Boo-tacular, Maine Park, Park Ridge Park District. 1:30 to 3 p.m. A non-scary event for ages 2 through 12. Kids can trick or treat in the park building, visit the ghostly cemetery, get tattoos and balloon creations and have fortunes told. Parents must accompany kids. 

3 p.m., Niles Library. The Illinois Ghost Society discusses paranormal investigations. 

Sunday, Oct. 28

2 p.m., Niles Library. Learn how to transform into a zombie, ghoul, or creepy creature. 

2:30 to 4 p.m., Iceland, Niles Park District. Get ready for some chills on the ice. 

Monday, Oct. 29

Ghost Story Telling Night, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Listen to stories about local legends. Third through sixth graders can become a "ghostorian."

Tuesday, Oct. 30

Scary Movies Night, Iannelli Studios Heritage Center, Park Ridge. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aimed at third through fifth graders. Cider and popcorn.

Wednesday, Oct. 31

Trick or Treat at the Park Ridge Library, Park Ridge Library. 

Contest awards and trick or treat, Iannelli Studios Heritage Center, Park Ridge.

Trick or treating at Golf Mill Shopping Center, Niles. 

Alden's Halloween Adventure, 1221 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. Games, treats, prizes, 3 to 5 p.m.
