Patch Passport: Deerfield Offers Green Homes Tour, Summer Concert Series & Catmania

No need to waste money traveling this summer when there are things you can enjoy right at home. Here's a list of Deerfield attractions you may have previously overlooked. Enjoy!

Green Homes Tour

Ever wonder what going green really means? At least when it comes to your home. Jump on board and take a North Shore green homes bus tour. Hosted by Friends of Ryerson Woods, participants will learn about sustainable practices in residential designs as well as check out green townhouses in Highland Park and a Frank Lloyd Wright renovation in Glencoe.

Summer Concert Series

There's nothing like listening to live music outside. Deerfield's concert series lets you enjoy tunes outdoors all summer along. Every Wednesday a new band performs outside Starbucks at 7 p.m.  On Thursdays, head to Deerfield Square at the same time. Plus, on Sunday's Mitchell Pool hosts live entertainment as well.

Catmania

Want to pet a cat? Buy a cat? Love a cat? , one of the oldest animal shelters in Illinois is hosting Catmania July 15-17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. What exactly does that mean? The adoption center will have vets on hand to answer feline questions and volunteers present to assist with the selection process. If you'd rather look than buy, that's OK too. Dog lovers are welcome as well. Orphans has a plethora of puppies to play with. 

Deerfield Farmers Market

Every Saturday, the Metra Commuter Lot is packed with vendors from 7 a.m. to noon for the Deerfield Farmers Market. Shoppers have their pick of fresh fruits and vegetables, freshly baked breads, cheeses and so much more. Sometimes there are cooking competitions, other times there's live music. No matter what, you'll go home with a bag full of groceries.

For breakfast grab a fresh pastry at . For lunch feast on a massive sub at  or a gourmet hamburger at . For dinner check out one of Deerfield's newest restaurants or relax eating outdoors on the upstairs patio at .

What to Buy      

Spend an afternoon at the Deerfield Square and enjoy some local shopping. From high end pieces to lingerie and kid's clothes, customers can leisurely walk from one store to the next.

Second Annual Bloody Mary Blues Fest, July 17th, Highwood, 10am-5pm. Take part in a professional/amateur Bloody Mary Contest, a brunch recipe contest and live Blues music.
