General Weather Discussion for the Week Ahead

A frontal boundary wavering back and forth across the Midwest is producing occasional rounds of showers and t-storms over our region with periods of showers expected through a good portion of Friday with some gaps in the rain at times. Showers and t-storms may linger over several sections of northeast Illinois through early Saturday with much better weather expected in the afternoon as rain shifts to the south and east.

High pressure will hold on Sunday and into Monday, then the frontal boundary will begin to move back north as a warm front by early Tuesday. Until then, there will be a lot of sunshine and temperatures will be rather pleasant with a gorgeous Sunday expected.

Beginning Tuesday and continuing on and off through the remainder of the week, there will be scattered rounds of showers and t-storms again with t-storm clusters moving in from the west and northwest as storms rotate around a heat dome centered over the Plain states. This potentially active pattern may in fact stick around through the end of the week, however, there will also be many dry hours for any outdoor activities and some storm cluster may miss us entirely to our south or west.

No heat waves are expected anytime soon and it looks like temperatures will average closer to normal due to some cloud cover and periods of precipitation. The hottest temperatures will stay to our south this time over downstate Illinois and Missouri.
