A Conversation about Aphasia

At 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 20, WBEZ 91.5 FM's  Afternoon Shift  program is holding a conversation about aphasia, a common  disorder that can affect a person's ability to talk, read, write, and understand spoken language. About one million Americans  -   or 1 in 250 people  -   live with aphasia, according to the National Aphasia Association, including 25-40% of stroke victims and others who experienced head trauma, brain tumors or other neurologic conditions.

Host Niala Boodhoo will explore research developments, everyday strategies, and the challenges of living with aphasia with one of the world's leading aphasia researchers, Northwestern University expert Cynthia Thompson, PhD, faculty member and clinical supervisor Belma Hadziselimovic, MS, CCC-SLP, and a community member whose husband has had aphasia for over seven years.

JOIN THE CONVERSATION!   Listeners are encouraged to call the station  at 312-923-9239 during the program with their questions and experiences. Hearing the perspective of community members, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals will add depth and understanding to the conversation. Individuals  outside of the station's FM range can hear the show by streaming in via wbez.org and clicking on the 'Listen Live' button.
