August Renoir: His World, French Fashion and Chicago Patrons
Hear about the life, times, and loves of this most popular
artist who was appreciated early on by discerning collectors, many of whom were
Chicagoans. Renoir was the least intellectual of the avant garde in the last quarter of 19th century Paris, but his
works have a distinctive elegance and a timeless appeal. Explore his
relationship with women's fashion as well as with others of the impressionist
group, and how Renoir's working class background affected his attitudes. How
and when did he become successful? Find
out all this and more while viewing beautiful color slides of his paintings,
some of which are currently exhibited at the Art Institute.
