WHO WILL TAKE THE TITLE OF BEST PIZZA IN TOWN? DISTRICT 219 EDUCATION FOUNDATION HOSTS THIRD ANNUAL PIZZA WARS

SKOKIE, IL (JANUARY 17, 2013) – The District 219 Education Foundation for Excellence, with the help of the Student Organization Dance Marathon, are getting fired up to host its Third Annual PIZZA WARS on January 17th from 6-9pm in the Niles West High School cafeteria at 5701 Oakton, Skokie, IL. This year, the war continues between local pizza makers including: De Carlucci's, Edwardo’s, Father & Son Italian Kitchen, Gulliver’s, Jet’s Pizza, Lou Malnati’s, Nancy's, Organic Life, Papa John’s, Pequod's, Sarpino's, Village Inn and Wa-Pa-Ghetti’s Pizza. The contenders are set, but the question remains to be answered by the community: what pizza will be tossed the trophy as the Pizza Wars 3 champion?

From thick, thin, cheesy, crispy, spicy or savory, the ‘people’ will choose who may take the title from the 2012 Pizza Wars 2 winner, Jet’s Pizza. Attendees are invited to taste and vote for their favorite pizza beginning at 6pm, with voting ending at 7:15pm, and the Pizza Wars 3 winner being awarded the trophy at 7:30pm. The admission fee offers every attendee the chance to taste every contender’s pizza and cast their vote for their favorite by placing a chip in the pertaining bucket at the voting table.

Tickets are $10.00 in advance, five for $40, or $12.00 at the door. The evening will also feature live entertainment from Niles West and North student bands. Families can stroll through local sponsoring businesses that will be onsite including First Bank and Trust, Relief Medical Services, Chiro One Wellness and Sport Clips. Raffle tickets will also be available for $1 each. Tickets may be purchased on the Foundation’s website at www.219foundation.org.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the District 219 Education Foundation for Excellence.  Last year, over 500 people participated in Pizza Wars 2, raising over $4,300 for the Education Foundation.  This year plans call for Pizza Wars 3 raising an aggressive goal of $8,000.

Since 2007, the Education Foundation has awarded more than $120,000 in grants in the form of graphing calculators, refurbished computers, AP testing, college entrance exams, community college scholarship, and college campus bus tours for students who may not have considered higher education until their visit. Approximately three out of every ten District 219 students qualify for the Free or Reduced-Price Lunch program, a number that has grown dramatically since the Foundation was formed. More recently, the Foundation has also been providing school supplies and breakfast bars for students in need.
