Morton Arboretum
The Arboretum is glorious at any time of year, but in
autumn, it presents a whole world of new color!
Look for sugar, silver, Freeman and red maples, along with hickories,
bur oak, persimmon, sassafras, lindens, and black gum to be the “Scene
Stealers.” The Arboretum was founded in 1922 by Mr. Joy Morton, of the Morton
Salt Company who was eager to create a great tree museum. Its goal is to
encourage the planting and conservation of trees and other plants for a
greener, healthier, and more beautiful world. Our tour begins with a one-hour
narrated riding tour aboard the Acorn Express Tram. There will be some free
time to explore the lovely gardens, plant collections, rare natural area, and
unique gift shop. Lunch will be at Clara’s in Woodridge. Fee includes all fees,
lunch, and transportation. Departs from our Northfield location. Call 847-470-5223 to register.
