Voice Your Opinion on Jobs, Immigration Bill In Congress
Wherever you stand on immigration, weigh in with a quick call to our state representatives voting for or against the Legal Workforce Act (H.R. 2885).
A proposed bill in Congress is attempting to put millions of Americans back to work, mandating E-Verify for all new hires. The bill, H.R. 2885, the Legal Workforce Act, is working its way through committee. Numbers USA, a political watchdog group, posts the "talking points" of the proposed legislation on their website, www.numbersusa.com.
They list the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 (Illinois representatives are Durbin and Kirk). Illinois is represented on the Judiciary Committee by Mike Quigley at 202-225-4061.
Simply tell them if you are for or against this proposed piece of legislation which is currently being debated with votes on dozens of amendments scheduled for next week. They only ask for your zip code....no names. It appears that folks who are against this bill are for the status quo, while folks who are for this bill, want to see more citizens, veterans and legal immigrants find jobs and be hired. The bill does not address what to do with over 11 million illegal aliens.

The message here is to get involved, make your voices be heard, regardless of your position. Silence should not be an option. On a final note regarding last week's blog, the Illinois Medicare Advantage "penetration numbers" have come in from www.statehealthfacts.org ...Illinois only has 9.3% of its seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage Plans as of 9-15-11. This speaks to my suggestion/encouragement aimed at seniors on medicare, to opt for a supplement rather than jumping into a restrictive, limiting and costly (to the government), MA Plan.
