Scout Holds Flag Ceremony at Notre Dame College Prep

A local Boy Scout organized a flag retirement ceremony at Notre Dame College Prep as part of his project to become an Eagle Scout.

Local Boy Scout Daniel Pietrzyk held a flag retirement ceremony at Notre Dame College Prep HS on Saturday Oct 21. As part of his Eagle project - to perform a service project that benefits the local community - Life Scout Pietrzyk engaged the assistance of 8 other scouts and leaders from Boy Scout Troop 175 as well as local members of American Legion post 134.After opening remarks by Notre Dame's Father Smith and several speeches by local dignitaries and an explanation of the proper manner in which an American flag is retired, a symbolic flag was retired by burning it. Pietrzyk collected several hundred other flags from local organizations which were to be burned in a local crematorium with the ashes later being buried. Pietrzyk hopes to complete his Eagle rank in the very near future and will graduate from Notre Dame High School in 2013.
