Tales from the debate ( Part Deux )

WHO IS THIS GUY? AN EASTER CONVERSATION AT THE ACHINO HOUSE.

Happy Easter to all my friends, fellow campaign workers and even the initialed and nicknamed people of The Patch. Easter brunch at the Achino home was a huge success. But let's finish up Jim Hynes first. After Jim Hynes admitted playing a video poker game in Vegas, and I got up off the floor, what happened next was kind of boring so will skip it. Just a quick thought Jim, my father who was a decorated World War II veteran and longtime tavern owner in the city of Chicago, said this,"Harry, if anyone ever tells you how honest and ethical they are watch your wallett." So let's update that quote for the new millennium. If a career lawyer and now a politician tells you how honest and ethical he is run like run like the devil is chasing you., because he probably is!

So now let's get back to Easter brunch. I had the pleasure of my four adult sons joining us, and as what normally transpires on the holidays the conversation steered towards sports and politics. After the usual moaning about our losing bracket picks, to my delight the conversation centered on the upcoming election. To a man my four boys inquired, so who is this Hanusiak character? I replied, nobody knows! He claims to be some kind of toilet and sink salesman, and also some kind of computer genius. But nobody really knows this guy. Do you know anybody that bought a toilet from him, one of my sons inquired. Nope. Know anyone that has had computer work done by him? Nope. So what do you know about this guy? Well,  I'll tell you what he said in the debate. He said, when I am elected mayor I will put at least 20 to 30 hours a week into that position. My son asked, how much does the mayor's job pay? I replied, $4000 a year. He said, no way! I said, way. So let me make sure I have this straight. He going to work 20 to 30 hours a week, so for arguments sake let's say 25. Will give him two weeks paid vacation. That equates to 1300 hrs. a year, at $3.08 per hour. I replied, yep. And you know what else he said pal? He was going to be honest and ethical. My son said, didn't grandpa have a saying for that? Yep!
