Hynes Sets Record Straight On 'Government Ethics' Flyer

Hynes sets the record straight on "government ethics" flyer.

In his latest attempt to sully my reputation and that of Trustee Louella Preston, Andrew Przybylo distributed on Friday another assortment of half-truths and lies. In this flyer, he accused me of orchestrating a buyout of the former Village Manager without the knowledge or consent of the mayor and him. Nonsense! At the January 2012 Board meeting that lasted until 1:30 a.m. that Przybylo attended, the buyout was approved by a 5-1 vote. Subsequently Van Geem refused the offer and stayed on the job for another 10 months before he resigned. Next, Przybylo claims that I improperly chose a law firm I favored to draft the document and the firm was paid $30,000 for its work. Again completely untrue!

The TRUTH is that the law firm was recommended by the Village Attorney and is the same law firm that has represented the Village for over 10 years. As to the $30,000 in legal fees he claims was paid to that firm, that is another made up claim he is trying to pass off as fact.

Also in this flyer Przybylo keeps up his unrelenting attack on Trustee Preston for having an Internet connection at her home, paid for by the Village. As has been stated numerous times this was originally approved by Mayor Blase and continued until October 2009. In addition Przybylo falsely claims that Louella’s husband received free trips with Sister Cities paid for by taxpayers. Again, the truth is Mr. Preston paid for his own trips and as Przybylo well knows, the taxpayers do not pay for any Sister City expenses.
