Morton Grove's 2012 July 4th Parade

Record-tying heat--102 degrees--didn't dampen spirits during Morton Grove's annual July 4th parade.

Record-tying heat--102 degrees--didn't dampen spirits during Morton Grove's annual July 4th parade.

After the fire trucks and police cars passed, the Morton Grove American Legion kicked off the celebration, followed by a car driven by Village President Dan Staackman--while trustees Bill Grear and Daniel DiMaria waved from the back seat.

Several marching bands took part, including the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps from LaCross, Wisconsin, the Troopers from Casper, Wyoming, and the Glassmen from Toledo.

Perhaps the most popular parade attraction was a military vehicle that sprayed water on the sweltering crowd.

The Medinah Shriners, with their motorcyles, antique fire trucks, "flying carpets," and even an airplane of sorts dominated the parade.

Hi, John! Just to clarify, Trustee Shel Marcus was driving the car; Mayor Staackmann was walking alongside with Clerk Tony Kalogerakos, Trustee John Thill, Trustee Larry Gomberg, and me. Great photos!

Hi Comment Guy, Thanks for asking! I was finding that we would get a lot of people guessing forRead More some restaurants (usually when there was a payoff of free pizza), and not very many people entering for other restaurants. Do you think we should bring them back? I'm open to people's opinions. --Pam

Hi Pam, Yes, I thought it would be great if we brought it back. For me personally, whenever I wouldRead More seed the contest on my Twitter timeline, I would immediately go to the site. And if there is an offer of free food even better. It does not even necessarily be a restaurant as it can also be any other type of business, i.e., bakery, retail, gym, car services, etc.
