How To Survive The Heat Wave

With temperatures soaring to 96 today, you may want to go to a cooling center if you don't have air conditioning at home.

 

With temperatures reaching the mid to high 90s, and heat indexes even higher due to high humidity, it's time to exercise caution. 

If you don't have air conditioning, take refuge in a cooling center:

  • The Niles Family Fitness Center is open 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Niles Senior Center is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 pm. weekdays.
  • The Niles Library is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. M-Thurs, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • The Morton Grove Library is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. M-Thurs, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. 

The Niles Senior Center and Niles Family Fitness Center are located in the Niles government complex at the southeast corner of Waukegan Road and Oakton Street.

If you have neighbors who do not have air conditioning and may be ill or house-bound, it's a good idea to check on them.
