Special pre-show reception for active and veteran members of the military at 6:30 p.m. on March 8. Show is performed Thursday March 8 and Friday March 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday March 10 and Sunday March 11 at 4 p.m. Show continues Mar. 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Mar. 17 at 4 and 8 p.m. and Mar. 18 at 4 p.m., at 7700 W. Dempster, Niles.
Why Go:
Dramatic, poignant production brings home truths about the Vietnam war and its effects on combatants and the Vietnamese.
Pricing:
$5 high school students age 14 and up and senior citizens; $10 adults. The material is not appropriate for ages younger than 14.

When/Where: From 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, and from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10, in the auditorium at, 1755 S. Wolf Road in Des Plaines.
Why Go: Orchesis Sponsor and Maine West teacher Lisa Jacob said that audiences will enjoy “contemporary dance, hip hop, comedy, all-guy dances, sassy jazz, moving lyrical, tap, our award-winning state piece, and our incredible adagio, where the guys lift and throw the girls. It is an exceptional show with something for the whole family.” The show’s theme is “Access Orchesis,” and narrations will be based on the Access Hollywood theme. Sixty-two dancers are participating.
Pricing: Tickets at the door are $6.

Why Go: A free screening of The Ides of March (2011) is timely with primary voting approaching on March 20. George Clooney directs and stars in this film alongside Paul Giamatti and Philip Seymour Hoffman. In it, according to IMDb, “An idealistic staffer for a new presidential candidate gets a crash course on dirty politics during his stint on the campaign trail.”
