MGFM 6/29 Pie Contest: Prizes and Judges Announced!

Calling all bakers! The Morton Grove Farmers' Market is this Saturday. No entry fee! Just bring 2 dairy free fruit pies to the market by 10:45 am. First prize is $50 in Market Bucks and an autographed book.

Market Hours: 8 am - 12 pm

Pie Entries are due by 10:45 am


The Morton Grove Farmers' Market has moved our annual Pie Contest to June 29th to allow for a wider variety of seasonal fruit pies.  All are welcome to enter this FREE contest! 

The PRIZES are as follows:

  1. First Place:  $50 in Market Bucks, a copy of Homemade with Love, autographed by the author Jennifer Perillo, and a copy of Farmers' Markets of the Heartland by Janine MacLachlan.  Janine MacLachlan was one of our 2012 Pie Contest Judges!
  2. Second Place: $20 in Market Bucks and a copy of Farmers' Markets of the Heartland by Janine MacLachlan.
  3. Third Place: $10 in Market Bucks and a copy of Farmers' Markets of the Heartland by Janine MacLachlan.

We are pleased to announce our 2013 Pie Contest Judges:

  1. Morton Grove Village President Dan DiMaria - Mayor DiMaria is a strong supporter of this Farmers' Market and our commitment to encouraging healthy eating and community building.
  2. Ron Kaplan - co-founder of the foodie focused LTH Forum.  2011 MGFM Pie Contest Judge.
  3. Steve Zaransky - co-founder of the foodie focused LTH Forum.  2012 MGFM Pie Contest Judge.

Thank you in advance to the additional volunteers who will help run the contest, slice the pies, and help collect donations for the Niles Township Food Pantry.

Pie Contest Rules: 

  • Open to amateur bakers of all ages.
  • One entry per person.
  • Bring two identical pies: one for appearance, one for judge tasting.
  • Fresh or frozen fruit only - no dairy or eggs permitted.
  • Crust and filling must be homemade.
  • Accepted size range is 7" - 10."
  • Pies must be round.
  • Pies must be at the judges' table NO LATER than 10:45 am on Saturday, June 29.
  • Winner must be present during 11:00 am judging.
  • Winners will receive prizes and accolades!
  • Pies will be sliced and sold to Market customers after judging to raise funds for the local food pantry.
