Rest In Peace, Frank Silvio

It is with a heavy heart that we share with you the news of the passing of our beloved friend Frank Silvio.  Frank passed away peacefully early Monday morning, July 15, 2013.

Frank's family has asked that we share this news with everyone that knew and loved Frank.  Such a good friend to all, who loved life so much!  Thoughts, prayers and love go out to his family and friends.

Frank Silvio grew up in Niles and continued to live there with his young family.  Frank was co-owner of Maier's Bakery in Morton Grove, where he could often be found greeting customers and chatting with friends and neighbors.

In 2009, Frank responded to Kristina Otte's ad in a local paper.  Together with a few others, they founded the Morton Grove Farmers' Market.  Frank and Maier's Bakery were anchors of our community Farmers' Market since the first season in 2010.

Just a few weeks ago, Karen Amato from Niles Dairy Queen hosted a very successful fundraiser to help with Frank's mounting medical bills and to start an educational scholarship fund for his children.  Thank you to all who supported this event and the many more who donated to the Frank Silvio Benefit Fund at MB Bank.

Frank won his first battle against cancer during his high school years.  When his cancer returned two years ago, Frank kept smiling through the pain.  Despite an outpouring of family and community support, Frank was unable to defeat his illness.

Frank is survived by his wife, their two young children, his parents, his brother and sister, and countless relatives in both Italy and the U.S.

For those who'd like to pay their respects to Frank and his family, the wake will be tomorrow, Wednesday from 3 pm to 9 pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 Talcott Road in Park Ridge.  The funeral mass will be at St. John Brebeuf Catholic Church, 8307 N Harlem Ave in Niles on Thursday at 11 am.
